Southwest State authorities are investigating an apparent grenade attack on lawmaker’s residence in the city of Baidoa, situated 250Km southwest of Mogadishu, officials said.

Southwest State authorities are investigating an apparent grenade attack on lawmaker’s residence in the city of Baidoa, situated 250Km southwest of Mogadishu, officials said.

The MP, Arfo Aden Ibrahim confirmed that he was out of the house at the time of the attack, but, said three family members have sustained wounds in the incident.

The attack took place early on Wednesday night, underscoring the security challenges facing the Federal Member State that has recently inaugurated a new president.

No one was killed in the attack, according to Ibrahim, who was the main target of the bomb attack. There was no claim of responsibility for the overnight assault.

Al-Shabab, an Al-Qaeda ally in the East African country which has been battling the Western-backed Somalia government for 10 years often stages such attacks in the town.
