Puntland Parliament Elects Committee For Speaker’s Election

The interim speaker of the Puntland regional parliament, Hussein Yassin Haji Diriye has named a new committee to spearhead the election the of the speaker of Puntland regional parliament on Wednesday.

The seven-member committee selected from the new lawmakers of the regional assembly will coordinate the election process of the new speaker and his deputies on Thursday.

Hon. Ismail Abdi Abtile will chair the coordination committee assisted by the interim secretary general and his deputy.

The members will also elect the presidential electoral committee who will preside over the upcoming presidential election slated for next Tuesday.

Over 20 candidates have declared their interest to run for Puntland state presidency.

Security of election hall and its environs has been stepped up as more soldiers were deployed in Garowe town and the entry points to thwart security threats during this electioneering period.
