MPs to grill security, aviation ministers today following summons

Somalia’s Security and Aviation ministers will appear in the Lower House today following a summoning last week.

House speaker Mohamed Mursal sent out summons to Mohamed Abukar Islow (Security) and his aviation counterpart Mohamed Abdullahi Salad to appear before the House today.

According the letter, Islow is expected to brief the House on the security situation of the capital Mogadishu. MPs will also be grilling Salad following restrictions of travel on opposition leaders.

A case against the state is currently before Banaadir High Court filed by the opposition party Himilo following two instances in which its leader and former president Sheikh Sharif Ahmed was restricted from traveling outside Mogadishu.

Sharif and his successor Hassan Sheikh Mohamud were held at Aden Adde Airport for several hours before being cleared to fly to Beletweyne last month.
