The speaker of the House of the People of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman is expected to travel to Baidoa city, the interim capital of Southwest State.

The speaker of the House of the People of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman is expected to travel to Baidoa city, the interim capital of Southwest State.

The speaker and a parliamentary delegation he is leading will attend the inauguration of the new Southwest president, Abdulaziz Lafta-Garen which will take place on Wednesday.

The security of Baidoa has been extremely tightened by Somali security forces backed by Ethiopian soldiers who are serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM].

Reports said Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is likely to be part of the leaders participating in the inaugural ceremony.

Abdulaziz Lafta-Garen was elected as Southwest state president last December following an election that has been marred by deadly violence and protests in Baidoa city.
