Jubbaland Security Official Killed In Clashes Near Kismayo City
A senior security official was killed in an armed confrontation between troops within Jubbaland state forces in the outskirts of the southern port city of Kismayo, the regional capital of Lower Jubba region.
The official whose name has not been identified lost his life in the internal fighting, which took place at Bulo-Gadud area, a former Al Shabaab bastion.
It’s not yet clear what motivated the skirmish, but, Jubbaland said an investigation is underway.
Local residents say tension was brewing following the killing of the deputy commissioner of Bula-Gadud army commander under the Jubbaland state of Somalia.
The latest reports from Kismayo indicate that there are efforts ongoing to defuse the escalating tension, and bring back the normalcy to the remote village, which hosts hundreds of regional and KDF forces.
