Col. Abdullahi Mohamed, a soldier among the 60th battalion of Somali Army told Radio Shabelle that two soldiers on their side have been killed during the attack by al-shabab

He seized the control of the base after the government forces were overpowered in a brief gunfight that occurred in the area but withdrew after an hour.

A a number of government soldiers sustained injuries after a military vehicle ferrying reinforcement forces to Deynunay was targeted with landmine explosion near the town.

The wounded soldiers were rushed to Baidoa general hospital where they are being treated.

The situation in Deynunay, about 18Km north of Baidoa in now back to normal as government forces took over the control of the base.
