The Somali community in South Africa held a meeting discussing the xenophobic attacks in South Africa targeting Somali traders in the remote locations.

The Somali community in South Africa held a meeting discussing the xenophobic attacks in South Africa targeting Somali traders in the remote locations.

The meeting took place at Somalia’s embassy in South Africa and was attended by Somali traders, elders, intellectuals and ambassador Mohamed Barrow, according to the sources.

During the talks, the sides agreed to set up a committee tasked with working on the assistance of the Somalis who lost their businesses in the xenophobic violence in the country.

The move was welcomed as historic as the Somali traders in South Africa have been the target of armed gangs who are looting their businesses and killing them ruthlessly.

The Somali government said early that it is working with South Africa to stop the killing of its citizens and bring an end to the xenophobic attacks.
