Somaliland Troops Seize Town In Sool Region From Puntland

Heavy fighting erupted in Tukaraq town, north of Somalia between Puntland and Somaliland, residents and security sources said.

The fighting broke out after forces from Somaliland launched an offensive against Puntland forces earlier Monday.

The troops from Somaliland captured the city of Tukaraq, near Las Anod town, the regional capital of Sool from Puntland forces, according to the residents.

There are reports of casualties, but, the number has not yet been confirmed.

The development comes as Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is on his second day of a visit to Garowe, which located some 86Km away from Tukaraq.
