Somaliland government arrest prominent cleric

Somaliland security forces have arrested Sheikh Mohamed Sheikh Ismail, a prominent cleric in Somaliland and many other parts of Somalia.

According to the sheikh’s daughter, Somaliland security forces arrested the cleric on Tuesday afternoon.

“Sheikh Mohamed Sheikh Ismail, one of Somaliland’s leading clerics and my father, was taken from his office this morning by the police. At 5:00 pm, we have no news of him, and we have lost him everywhere,” she said.

According to his daughter, Sheikh Mohamed had previously served seven years in prison after being accused of involvement in terrorist activities in Somaliland during the Riyale government and was later pardoned by the president. May 2011.
