The Members of Somali parliament have unanimously voted to approve the proposed 2019 budget which is estimated $340 million during Saturday’s meeting in Mogadishu.

Today’s meeting which was chaired by the speaker of the house, Mohamed Sheikh Mursal Abdulrahman also discussed other businesses awaiting the assembly including approval of seven bills of the draft constitution.

Speaker Mursal urged members to attend the final approval of the budget session that is scheduled on 31st December to beat deadline following day-long debate by the parliamentarians.

More than USD 340 Million budget tabled by the ministry of finance via the finance committee for next year plan is expected to be unanimously approved on Monday.

The discussion of the budget comes at a time when the embattled house finance committee has been reshuffled in an effort to end divisions within its membership, that was the root cause to the delayed sessions.

Mohamud Siraji, the younger brother of the late Minister for Public Works and Reconstruction, Abass Abdullahi Sheikh Siraji was since elected as the chairperson of the powerful finance committee.

The new chair and his team met the finance minister, Abdulrahman Dualeh Beyleh on Thursday to discuss the way forward on the budget.
