Somali Army Launches Anti-Al Shabaab Offensive In Ged Region

Somali national army [SNA] was reported to have launched an offensive against Al-Shabaab militants in the southern strategic region of Gedo on Tuesday.

The Operation to flush out Al Shebab is ongoing in the areas around Garbaharey, Elwak, Belet Hawo, Bardheere and other districts in the region.

Somali military officials who spoke to Shabelle said that the aim of the offensive is to dislodge Al Shabaab from its remaining strongholds in the region and restore peace.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity also said the current operation will continue until the security of Gedo region is stabilized.

Lastly, Hassan Nur Hajji, the deputy governor of Gedo, told Shabelle that the recent operation saw the arrest of 10 young people suspected of having links with Al Shabaab.
