Slain Somali MP Laid To Rest State Funeral In Mogadishu

The body of Somalia’s oldest lawmaker in parliament, Osman Elmi Boqorre has been laid to rest in Mogadishu after a state funeral on Sunday morning.

The deputy speaker of the house, chairman of the Senate, fellow legislators, family members, and other senior government officials attended the burial at a cemetery in Median hospital.

The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab has claimed credit for the assassination of the long-serving veteran Somali parliament member who was shot dead in Karan district on Saturday.

Boqorre becomes the first MP killed this year in Mogadishu, the seaside city which has been hit by deadly attacks and killings by al-Shabaab in the past.
