Six soldiers killed, governor survives following IED attack in Lower Shabelle

Six soldiers were killed and several others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a landmine in Lower Shabelle Sunday morning.

Six soldiers were killed and several others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a landmine in Lower Shabelle Sunday morning.

Sources said the soldiers died on the spot after an IED suspected to have been planted on the road blew up their vehicle. Lower Shabelle governor Abdikadir Mohamed Nur who was in the targeted convoy survived that attack but his situation was not immediately clear.

The attack which has been claimed by the militant group Al-Shabaab happened at Tehsile village along Afgooye-Wanlaweyn road.

 

Two Danab special forces commanders who were also injured have since been taken to Afgooye hospital for treatment.
