Sources told HOL the vehicle, a Toyota Succeed model hit an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted on Dhobley-Tabta road in Afmadow district.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The attack happened barely ten hours after a shooting incident in Mogadishu which killed four security personnel.
The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the shooting in Waberi district in Mogadishu Monday morning.
The victims were reportedly identified to be officers attached to the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
