The Newly Appointed Mogadishu Mayor Meets With Thabit

The newly appointed governor of Banadir region and mayor of Mogadishu Eng Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow met with the ousted mayor Thabit Abdi Mohamed on Sunday night.

Sources said during the closed-door meeting, both sides discussed ways to defuse the escalation political tension following the dismissal of Thabit Abdi Mohamed.

Somalia’s Security and Telecommunications ministers, MPs attended the talks which ended in a peaceful atmosphere after the outgoing mayor accepted to hand over the power.

On Sunday, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has released a decree sacking the mayor of Mogadishu Thabit Abdi Mohamed, a move that led to a new political standoff.
