Kenya Deploys More Troops Into Somalia After Al-Shabab Attacks

Kenya has sent additional forces into Somalia amid a surge in Al-Shabaab attacks on the border towns in the northeast region.

Residents in El-Wak and Dhobley towns on Somali-Kenyan border said they woke up to KDF troops with armored vehicles crossing into Somalia on Sunday morning.

The deployment of the military in Somalia comes days after Kenyan forces have destroyed a Somalia-based Telecom communication mast on the border and killed two staff members.

Kenya has a large contingent of troops in the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] who are currently operating in Gedo and Jubba regions of Southern Somalia.

The East African nation has suffered deadly attacks and cross-border raids from Al-Shabaab since it sent combat forces to neighboring Somalia in mid-2011.
