Hirshabelle SEIT to hold election for one seat

The Hirshabelle regional electoral commission announced that elections would be held on Monday for a seat.

HOP039, which Maryan Ahmed Harun is currently holding, will be contested by several candidates, including Dr. Haji Ali. Candidates are expected to be registered in the morning o that the elections can be held later in the day.

Traditional elders and civil society have begun arriving at the election hall.

If Monday’s election is successful, Beledweyne will be one seat away from completing its portion of the Lower House. 

The remaining seat is HOP135, which Amina Mohamed Abdi held before being killed on March 23 in a series of bomb attacks in Beledweyne.
