General Gafow Elected As New Somali Federal Lawmaker

The former chief of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency  (NISA), Gen. Abdullahi Mohamud Gafow has won the election of the parliamentary seat held in Dhusamareb town of central Somalia.

Reports say Gafow’s opponent pulled out from the race before the election of the seat kicked off, effectively clearing the way for Mr. Gafow to become the next MP.

The unprecedented move following the withdrawal of the challenger, Hirey Muhuyidin who previously registered with the poll agency to contest for the seat.

Despite Gafow being the only contender for the seat, Somali electoral body proceeded to hold the election which participated 50 electoral delegates.
