Garowe police arrest popular singer after fatal crash

Police in Puntland have arrested a popular singer in Garowe on Friday after a fatal car crash led to the death of at least one person and injured another.

Sharmarke Abdinasir Mohamed, known professionally as Sharma Boy,  was arrested after the luxury car he was driving overturned in the Burawadal district in northern Galkayo. A woman who has been identified as Said Jama Mire was killed. Another passenger, Abdinasir Sale, was injured in the crash.

The Nugal Regional Police Commander, Colonel Mohamed Jama Aden, told local media that it was under investigation and that there would be a public briefing soon.

Sharma Boy is a hip-hop-inspired artist who has legions of young fans in Somalia and the diaspora.  He was scheduled to perform in Garowe this weekend.
