Deni says exit of electoral leaders will not deter democratic process in Puntland

The resignation of state electoral leaders will not affect the democratic process in Puntland, President Abdullahi Deni has said.

Deni said in a statement Saturday his government was committed to completing the district council elections set for early this year.

“Puntland Government reassures the people that the recent unfortunate resignations of TPEC chairman and deputy chairman will not hinder the roadmap to the democratisation in any shape or form,” Deni said.

Deni’s remarks follow the resignation of Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) chairman Guled Salah and his deputy Jamah Farah at beginning of this month.

Salah accused Deni of frustrating the function of the electoral body.
