Six people have died in the last 24 hours out of COVID-19 as 49 others test positive in Somalia bringing to 286 the national tally.

The Ministry of Health announced Tuesday night six people succumbed to the disease adding to 13 the number of Somalis who have been killed by the global pandemic.

The number of cases reduced by about 30 from Monday which recorded the highest ever at 73. The number COVID-19 cases in the last five days have shot up by 206 translating to an average of about 50 cases in a day.

Somalia has seen a sharp rise in the COVID-19 cases in the last three weeks amid fears the disease could be fast spreading especially within the capital Mogadishu.

Though the first case was recorded in March 16, there were no or less than five recorded cases for about three weeks before the numbers finally shot up by the end of the first week of April.
