Col. Abdullahi Nasri: I have filed a case against Farmajo and Fahad Yassin at the ICC

Col. Abdullahi Mohamed Nur (Nasri) announced on Monday that he had filed a lawsuit against President Farmajo, his national security advisor Fahad Yassin, and acting intelligence director Yasin Farey at the International Criminal Court.

Nasri, a former Jubaland official, told the media in Nairobi that he would bring to justice all those involved in his arrest and torture during his detention in Jilaow prison.

He said the ICC had accepted his case, adding that his case would pick up momentum after Ramadan.

“I want to uphold justice, through the rule of law for all those involved in the abuse and the crimes committed against me,” said Coll Abdullahi Nasri.

Somalia is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, which outlines the ICC’s structure and areas of jurisdiction.

Nasri said he had referred his case to Western embassies in Somalia and asked for their help in taking action against anyone complicit in his torture.

Col Nasri was detained for two months in Jilaow Prison in 2019 and was vocal about the alleged abuse he endured at the notorious prison.
