ASWJ Boycotts New Conditions Set By Galmudug Technical Committee

Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a has denied the new conditions set by the Galmudug technical committee in charge of the regional elections on Tuesday.

Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a has denied the new conditions set by the Galmudug technical committee in charge of the regional elections on Tuesday.

The Sufi group urged the Federal Government of Somalia to respect the agreement signed by both sides earlier arguing that the conditions do not concern its members.

“Ahlu Sunna would like to emphasize that the committee named by the federal government does not have any authority over the 20 members selected by Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a. Therefore, the new conditions do not affect the quota of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a because that committee is not recognized by Ahlu Sunna and does not have representatives.” Ahlu Sunna said in its statement.

“We urge the Somali federal government to implement its part of the agreements,” the statement added.
The religious group was allocated 20 representatives in 89 state assembly membership in a treaty facilitated by the office of the Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre via the Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs.

The state elections technical committee issued a 14-points condition candidate seeking to be part of the new Galmudug regional parliament.

Key points in the contentious letter by the technical committee include age limit of not less than 25 years, high school certificate, none criminal record and new examination to determine the capacity of the new legislators.
