Al Shabaab Militants Raid Military Outpost Near Bal’ad Town

The Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab militants have launched an attack against Somali military outpost in the outskirts of Bal’ad district in Middle Shabelle region on Sunday.

The assault began with heavy shelling on the army base in Golgoley locality, leading to an exchange of gunfire which raged on about an hour, according to the local residents.

The army has repelled the attack and pushed back the militants during the confrontation. It was immediately unclear the exact number of the casualty figures on both sides.

Al Shabaab has intensified its ambush attacks on Somali and AU forces in southern Somalia, in an attempt to outs the UN-backed Federal government in Mogadishu.
