Airport official shot dead in Galkaayo

A staffer at Galkaayo Airport was gunned down Friday night  by armed men who were not immediately identified.

Sources in the town told the officer identified as Osman Hussein Haji was shot at near his house. He died on the spot.

The circumstances surrounding Haji’s killing remain unclear but it adds to several other cases in the recent past targeting government officials in the northern Galkaayo town.

Authorities said investigations were already underway to bring to book the persons behind the killing.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the militant group Al-Shabaab has carried out such attacks in the past.
