The UN in Somalia and Turkey have condemned the Friday bombing in Mogadishu which claimed at least 20 lives.

The UN Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) termed the bombing ‘vicious’ and condoled with the families of the affected families.

 

“The UN in Somalia strongly condemns the vicious al-shabaab attack on 5 march in Mogadishu, extends condolences and solidarity to the families of those who lost their lives, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,”UNSOM said in a tweet.

Separately, the Turkish government reiterated its stand with Somalia and condemned the attack.

“We strongly condemn this heinous act and extend our condolences to the brotherly people and the government of Somalia,” a statement from the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry read in part.

Aamin Ambulance said 20 people were killed in the bombing at Yamani restaurant near the port of Mogadishu.

The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility.
