The Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab militants have carried out a bomb attack against a convoy carrying Somali troops on the outskirts of Mogadishu, the Somali capital.

Al Shabaab said it was behind the roadside blast on the army, which occurred on the seaside road linking the capital to Marka, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle.

At least two government soldiers were reported to have been killed and several wounded in the incident, according to a local resident, who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone.

The attack was the latest in a string of ambushes against Somali and AU troops traveling routinely on the street as the allied forces ramp up military operation in the region.
