Three Somali Soldiers Killed In IED Blast In Lower Shabelle Region

At least three Somali military soldiers were reported to have been killed and several wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in the country’s southern Lower Shabelle region.

Residents said a remote-controlled landmine struck an army convoy carrying Somali special forces at Warmahan area as they were en route to the Balli Doogole Airbase in the region.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, which was the latest of its bombings targeting Somali and AU military convoy traveling on the road linking Mogadishu to Baidoa.

Somali military is yet to comment on the incident.

In the past few years, Lower Shabelle region has been hit by deadly attacks against AMISOM bases and Somali forces fighting the Al Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants.
