Three dead in car attack in central Somalia

Three people have been reported killed and seven others injured on Wednesday after gunmen attacked a car in eastern Mudug region, according to officials in both Puntland and Galmudug states.

Three people have been reported killed and seven others injured on Wednesday after gunmen attacked a car in eastern Mudug region, according to officials in both Puntland and Galmudug states.

Galmudug officials said the vehicle was heading to Galkayo when heavily armed men ambushed the vehicle.

The gunmen reportedly opened fire at the car, shooting three of the passengers dead.

The injured were rushed to a hospital in northern Galkayo town where they are undergoing emergency surgery.

Earlier this month, Galmudug and Puntland states formed a joint committee to oversee the pact signed by the states to end the crisis in Galkayo and the sporadic violence that led deaths of hundreds of people from both sides.

An official said that the joint committee will be dispatched to the area of the latest violence.

It is yet unclear the motive behind the deadly attack on the car.

Mudug region which is administered both states is regarded as one of the hot-spots for clan clashes that has led several times to violate peace deals inked by the states.
