Somalia’s intelligence agency said Thursday it has submitted findings of a probe into VOA journalist Harun Maruuf to the Attorney General seeking to charge him against what it said was ‘threat to national security’.

Somalia’s intelligence agency said Thursday it has submitted findings of a probe into VOA journalist Harun Maruuf to the Attorney General seeking to charge him against what it said was ‘threat to national security’.

The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said in a tweet it was ready to pursue legal action against the popular journalist noting the outcome was ‘ready to take suitable legal action.’

The agency announced early this month it was investigating the journalist over ‘threat to national security’ attracting rebuke from various leaders and journalist groups.

The journalist commands extensive following in social media and has reported widely on security and terrorism in East Africa. He is the co-author of Inside Al-Shabaab: The Secret History of Al-Qaeda’s Most Powerful Ally.
