The Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Government and the friendly people of Tanzania following the sinking of the MV Nyerere ferry on Lake Victoria on Thursday (September 20th) carrying hundreds of people, leaving more than 100 people dead and several others missing.

“Our thoughts and solidarity are with the families and individuals affected in this tragic event,” said Somalia’s ministry of foreign affairs in a statement.

The Federal Government of Somalia said it stands steadfastly with the people and Government of Tanzania at this difficult time.

At least 136 bodies were retrieved Friday, a day after a ferry capsized near Lake Victoria’s Tanzanian shore, according to local officials.
