Somalia Records 62 New COVID-19 Cases

The Somali health ministry on Saturday confirmed 62 more cases of COVID-19, raising the national tally to 390.

The Somali health ministry on Saturday confirmed 62 more cases of COVID-19, raising the national tally to 390.

Fawziya Abikar, the health minister, said two patients succumbed to the deadly virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 18.

The minister also said two more people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to ten, in a statement issued in Mogadishu.

The latest cases come amid concern about the sharp surge in the number of confirmed cases in Somalia due to the limited capacity to contain the spread of the virus because of the fragile healthcare system.

As part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly virus, the government has also extended curfew hours in Mogadishu that begins from 7.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m.

The Horn of African nation early this month closed schools, banned large gatherings, and suspended international and domestic passenger flights to help combat COVID-19.
