The corpses of Mabrouk Sherman who was flight officer and Omar Jamal Chirgdin a flight crew arrived at Moi international airport in Mombasa on Thursday evening aboard a private jet African express, the plane belonging to the company they were working for.
They were buried at Kikowani and Aldina Visram cemeteries at around 7 pm with only a few family members and politicians in attendance. Mabruk came from Ganjoni in Mombasa while Jamal’s parents hail from Kikambala in Kilifi county.
Airport police boss Adamson Furaha confirmed the arrival of the flight which touchdown at 6:30 pm.”The flight, African Express airline ferrying the bodies of the two pilots arrived at around 6:30 pm, the families picked the bodies and proceeded for the burial ceremony,” said the police chief.
The plane ferrying the bodies first landed in Nairobi on Thursday at around 5 pm before they were ferried to Mombasa.
The duo perished with four others on Monday after their plane crashed and burst into flames under unclear circumstances. Kenyan and Somalia authorities are probing the matter. The aircraft with six onboard was loaded with relief and medical supplies when it came down.
Kenya has demanded an investigation into the crash and Somalia has pledged to invite her investigators for a joint probe.
