Somalia and Egypt have agreed to enhance trade between the two countries following a meeting in Cairo town on Thursday.

The meeting which was attended by Somali minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Issa Awad and Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry had focused on means to boost bilateral ties in addition to a number of regional issues of mutual interest.

In a statement, Spokesman for Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said three memorandums of understanding including trade, cooperation, and support were inked.

According to the statement, Shoukry also voiced Egypt’s readiness to boost trade exchange with Somalia.

Egyptian foreign minister underscored Egypt’s keenness on supporting the Somali government, asserting Egypt’s vision about the importance of the unity and integrity of Somalia’s territories and support to building national institutions.

On regional issues, both ministers discussed the latest developments in Sudan and the Horn of Africa in addition to efforts exerted to combat terrorism.

Isse praised the relations between Egypt and Somalia, appreciating Egypt’s role in supporting Somalia.
