Somali security forces have managed to arrest a government soldier who was reported to have shot and killed an unarmed civilian in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Sunday night.

Somali security forces have managed to arrest a government soldier who was reported to have shot and killed an unarmed civilian in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Sunday night.

The soldier whose name has not yet been identified opened fire at an auto rickshaw in the capital’s Waberi district, killing the driver named Abdinasir Aden Abdi.

Police authorities said they are questioning the soldier at the district police station, and said he will be arraigned in court in the coming period.

In the past 48 hours, Mogadishu has seen a series of targeted assassinations by suspected Al Shabaab militants amidst tight security measures.

Despite being ejected from Mogadishu in 2011, the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab still capable of carrying out attacks, including car bombings and killings in the seaside city.
