Somali Regional Administration Bans Auto-Rickshaw Imports

Somalia’s Federal State of Southwest has issued a ban on the importation of new auto-rickshaws in its interim administrative capital of Baidoa city.

Speaking to the local media, Southwest State Police commander Mahad Abdirahman said the decision was aiming at downsizing the number of the tri-cycle vehicle in Baidoa town.

Abdirahman said the move came after the authorities expressed concern over the increasing number of the new motorcycles operating in the city its environs.

The commissioner vowed that the administration will confiscate the Motorcycles. The suspension will come into effect on 4th May, according to the Police chief.

“We are going to inform the rickshaw traders that the Southwest authorities will seize any newly imported autorickshaws in Baidoa city,” said Abdirahman.

This mode of vehicle is more commercially attractive to investors as it has a higher passenger and luggage capacity with the capability to travel in rough terrain.
