President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo, has thanked the government and people of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, for undertaking development and humanitarian projects in Somalia and for its assistance to the people and government of Somalia in various fields.

President Farmajo appreciated the gains from those programmes, especially road projects because of their positive impact on the Somali economy as a whole.

Al-Kuwari signed a contract for two road projects, the Mogadishu-Jowhar road and the Mogadishu-Afgooye road, and a contract to provide consultancy services with Astad Qatar Project Management Company.

The foundation stone for the two projects was laid on behalf of the president of Somalia by the country’s Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre.

The signing ceremony was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Somalia, Hassan bin Hamza Hashim, and a delegation from the Public Works Authority “Ashghal”, as well as number of Somali ministers, officials and parliamentarians.

The length of Mogadishu-Jowhar road is 90km, while the Mogadishu-Afgooye project is 22km long.

The two projects aim to support Somalia by providing adequate infrastructure to stimulate the country’s economy, as well as creating new job opportunities in the market, which will accelerate the development of the country.

These two important projects will ensure stability for the people of the region and enhance security and facilitate their lives to meet daily requirements, in addition to their contribution in transporting goods to and from the port of Mogadishu in order to strengthen the internal and external economy.
