Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has on Thursday held a meeting with the traditional elders of Southwest state in Baidoa city after the inauguration of a new leader.

The newly inaugurated leader of Southwest state Abdulaziz Lafta Gareen was also in attendance of the talks with the elders which took place the state’s Presidential Palace.

The meeting focused on how to spearhead peace and reconciliation efforts in the regional state as well as consultations regarding the war on Al Shabaab.

Farmajo who is on his second-day visit to region appreciated the vital role of the elders and community leaders in the peace-building and stability procedure in the country.

The visit of the president comes just one month after violent clashes erupted in Baidoa following the arrest of former Al-Shabaab deputy leader Mukhtar Robow.
