Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire has on Thursday warned against any attempts to extend their terms in office, assuring the public the country will go to the polls as planned.

Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire has on Thursday warned against any attempts to extend their terms in office, assuring the public the country will go to the polls as planned.

Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting Thursday, the PM said an extension could lead the country to political, security, and constitutional crisis and therefore it should not happen.

The statement by the Prime Minister comes as the country’s opposition and Federal leaders are warning the Govt against delaying the 2020/2021 elections in order to stay in power.

Recently, the national polls agency has announced its needs 9 months, starting the end of the current government’s mandate to hold a universal suffrage.
