Somali Police Force Celebrates 75th Anniversary Since Its Inception

The Somali police force has marked its 75th anniversary since establishment on Thursday in the capital, Mogadishu.

The Somali police force has marked its 75th anniversary since establishment on Thursday in the capital, Mogadishu.

The occasion was preceded over by the President of the Federal government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo accompanied by Internal security minister, Mohamed Abukar Islaw together with senior Somali security agencies officials.

Also in attendance were the members of the diplomatic core led by the Turkish ambassador, Mehmet Yilmaz, the representatives from UN agencies and African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM)

In his speech, President Farmajo has promised his government’s efforts to equip Somali police force.

“My government will ensure the training and equipment of the police force to strengthen law and order in the country,” the President said.

Somali leader has also pledged to improve the welfare including remunerations and taking care of the families of the officers killed in the line of duty.

Efforts by the international community including the AMISOM Police unit is helping the force to restructure by providing much-needed training and other facilities marked for operations.
