Somali PM Says No Deal Reached With Ethiopia On Seaports

Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khaire rejected reports that President Farmajo has inked an official trade agreement with its neighbouring Ethiopian government last Saturday.

Speaking to the Somali community in Oslo, Norway, PM Khaire said that Farmajo and Abiy Ahmed have reached a memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation.

The PM’s remarks came amid speculations that Somali president handed over four main ports to Ethiopia, a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa.

“We did not sign a deal with Ethiopia, the two leaders signed jointly issued a communiqué on creation trade cooperation between the two countries,” said Khaire.

Somalis took to the social media to condemn the MoU between Farmajo and Abiy Ahmed on the investment in the ports in Somalia.
