Somali PM Meets With Traders In Istanbul, Turkey

Somalia and Turkey trade conference aimed at boosting the two countries’ strategic economic partnership concluded in Istanbul.

The two-day conference was attended by Turkish and Somali entrepreneurs, officials from Somali and Turnkey governments.

Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire has officially concluded the meeting as the sides pledged to maintain bilateral economic ties and bolster strategic cooperation.

Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Kheire urged Turkey traders to invest in Somalia’s markets as the country is recovering from two decades of civil war.

“The two countries share historic relation bonds. We welcome Turkish traders to invest in Somalia’s lucrative markets and to strength the existing commerce between the countries,” said Mr. Kheire.

He said the two countries will convene regular meetings to follow up on the implementation of the agreements and to bolster the strategic cooperation in the years to come.

Early this year, the two countries signed a pact to boost their strategic economic partnership.

Turkey and Somalia have long enjoyed friendly relations, as Turkey has invested in many areas to help modernize Mogadishu, the capital of the Horn of Africa country.

Last year, Turkey opened its largest military training academy abroad in Somalia.

Located South of Mogadishu, the training facility took some two years to build.

The facility spans over 4 square kilometers (1.54 square miles) and can train more than 1,500 troops at a time, according to the Somali government.
