Somali parliament forms COVID-19 committee as Ministry warns of ‘second wave’

Mursal said the nine member committee of lawmakers will be mandated with collecting information countrywide and prepare a report on the state and impact of COVID-19 on the country.

 

The committee will also seek to understand how the the government is utilising funds allocated to fight the pandemic. The committee will also report on the state of the healthcare infrastructure in the country.

The Ministry of Health said Wednesday it is preparing for a second wave of the virus as it received donations from USAID and Save the Children.

The latest reporting on October 27 by the Ministry of Health indicated that COVID-19 infections stood at 3,941 and 104 fatalities. So far, the Ministry said 3,185 people have recovered from the pandemic which first landed in Somalia in mid March.
