A military court in Mogadishu, the country’s capital has handed down jail sentences for Somali government soldiers convicted of robbery.

Two military soldiers, Abdikarim Muse Muhyadin, 22, and Aweis Farah Mohamud, 21, were found guilty of robbing Hormoud Telcom, a leading telecommunication firm in Somalia.

A judge at the court said both soldiers were sentenced to 5 years in prison for carrying out robberies at two branches of the company located in Kawa-Godey and Km13 areas.

The soldiers together with another man whose name has not been identified and said to be civilian made away with a sum of 12,874 USD, according to the court statement.

Hassan Ali Nur Shute, Somalia’s military court chief handed down the sentence in the military tribunal in Mogadishu, ending the case that has spanned one month period.
