Somali Govt Troops Targeted In IED Blast In Mogadishu

A roadside bomb explosion in Mogadishu has left at least one Somali soldier dead on Wednesday, witnesses said.

The troops were targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) during a security patrol near Tarabunka junction in the capital’s Hodon district.

Several other soldiers were reported to have been wounded in the IED blast and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the area security officials.

Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the landmine explosion through a statement posted on its affiliated online sites, saying at least three soldiers died in the attack.

Mogadishu has seen a surge in attacks over the past few months as the government is planning to launch a final offensive to flush out Al Shabaab from the remaining areas.
