Somali Govt Announces New Offensive Against Al Shabaab

The Minister of defense for Somalia’s Federal Government, Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman has announced on Sunday a new and final offensive against Al Shabaab.

The fresh military operation which is being mobilized by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is aimed at flushing out Al Shabaab from its remaining strongholds.

The minister stated that the Somali National Army [SNA] forces are currently in their final preparation for the assault against Al Shabaab, adding that there will be no retreat again.

Al Shabaab has lost key towns and large swathes to Somali and AU troops in the past seven years, but, the militants are still controlling parts of south and central regions.
