SNA overpower Al-Shabaab after brief takeover of base in Lower Shabelle

Al-Shabaab briefly wrested control of a village in Lower Shabelle from SNA Sunday morning before they were overpowered and left, locals said.

Sources told the militants stormed into a military base in Elsalini village near Aw-Dhegle in the wee hours of Sunday using a vehicle loaded with explosives.

Fierce fighting ensued as Somali forces fought back for about an hour.

The militants tool control of the base, locals said before they left the camp driving away military vehicles.

In a statement on its affiliate media, Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed ten soldiers and seized the base but SNA officials dismissed it as false.
