Several Suspects Arrested In Killing Of A District Official In Somalia

Somali security forces in Mahas town in Hiran region have arrested several suspects in the killing of a senior local official on Friday in a bomb blast.

At least one person has been killed and two others injured in a landmine explosion in Somalia’s central town.

According to witnesses, the explosion hit a car belonging to the District Deputy Commissioner, Abdirashid Osman Arab in the town center of Mahas.

Arab reportedly killed in the blast while two other occupants are said to have sustained injuries.

The identity of the other two passengers did not yet been established.

Officials say the blast was caused by a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).

Somali forces who reached the scene have launched an operation to pursue the perpetrators of the attack.

In a statement posted on its affiliate online media, al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
