Somalia’s Security Ministry and the Police force commander-in-chief denied that the military has seized parliament building in Mogadishu on Friday evening.

Speaking at a joint news conference, Hassan Moalim, the state Minister of security for the Ministry of security said extra police to the parliament compound to beef up security.

For his part, General Bashir Abdi, the commander of Somali Police force said they sent Birmad forces to the site to join the previous soldiers in the protection of the building.

This latest development followed last week’s controversial motion of no confidence against Mohamed Osman Jawari, the speaker of the Lower House chamber of Somali parliament.

While speaking to reporters at his office last night, Jawari accused PM Hassan Ali Khaire of ordering the army to seize Parliament building amid new Political Crisis Deepens.
