Controversy surrounding the death of the former Prime Minister Ali Khalif Gulaydh has been put to rest after his family confirmed he died of COVID-19 as was reported by Ethiopian authorities.

A second autopsy conducted by the government of Somalia has affirmed what the Somali State in Somalia said earlier, the wife of the late leader Mariam Abdi Bihi told journalists in Mogadishu.

Mariam said the family and clan elders were satisfied with the results done in Mogadishu putting to rest speculations over the ex-premier’s death.

The family of the late PM had expressed reservations over the cause of his death calling for a second investigation.

Family spokesman Mukhtar Hamid said Friday the former university don may have been poisoned adding the family could not trust the autopsy report from Jigjiga where Galaydh died.

A state funeral and subsequent burial was conducted Saturday in Mogadishu led by President Mohamed Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Roble.

Galaydh becomes the second former Prime Minister to succumb to the global pandemic.
Former PM Nur Hassan Hussein died of COVID-19 in London April 1.
